This summary is for convenience. The full Terms below are what apply.
1. About these Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Jiacheng Wen, Jean-Paul-Richter Str. 41, 81369 Munich, Germany ("JoinMe", "we", "us"). They apply to your use of the JoinMe apps for iOS and Android, the JoinMe web app, and joinmesocial.com (together, the "Service").
You accept these Terms when you create an account. If you don't agree to them, please don't use the Service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal data. It is a separate document and not part of these Terms.
These Terms are provided in English. Nothing in them limits any rights you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of the country where you live.
2. Who can use JoinMe
To use JoinMe, you must:
- be at least 18 years old;
- be legally able to enter into this agreement;
- not be prohibited from using the Service under the laws that apply to you, and not be required to register as a sex offender anywhere;
- not have been previously removed from JoinMe by us, unless we have agreed otherwise.
3. Your account
- Give accurate information about yourself, including your real age, and keep it up to date.
- Have only one account. Your account is personal to you; don't share it or let anyone else use it.
- Keep your sign-in details secure. Tell us straight away at hello@joinmesocial.com if you think someone else has accessed your account.
- We may require a Photo check, or a check by our team, before you can host activities or after a report.
4. The Service
JoinMe lets you create real-world activities, discover activities near you, ask to join them, and chat with people once you've connected. We are continuously developing JoinMe and may add, change or remove features, provided that the core purpose of the Service stays the same and the change is reasonable for you.
We work hard to keep JoinMe available, but we can't guarantee that it will always be available without interruption, for example during maintenance or because of problems outside our control. We also can't promise that you will meet or match with anyone.
5. Meeting people safely
JoinMe helps adults arrange activities. We do not organise, supervise or attend meetings between members, and we do not check who members are. Members meet each other on their own responsibility. We cannot promise how any meeting will go.
Please read this
JoinMe is built around meeting people in person. We do not carry out criminal background checks, and we do not verify the identity of our users. You are responsible for your own interactions with other users, online and offline.
When you meet someone from JoinMe:
- meet in a public place, and tell a friend where you're going and who with;
- arrange your own transport, and stay in control of your own drinks;
- never send money, gift cards or financial information to someone you've met on JoinMe;
- don't share personal information such as your home address until you're comfortable;
- leave if something feels wrong, and report the person to us.
If you are ever in danger, contact the local emergency services straight away: call 112 anywhere in the EU, or 110 for the police in Germany.
Hosts are responsible for the activities they create. If an activity involves costs, for example tickets or a restaurant bill, arranging and paying them is a matter between the users involved.
6. Community rules
JoinMe only works as a respectful community. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. These rules also apply to how you treat people you meet through JoinMe, including in person at activities. When using the Service, you must not:
- harass, bully, stalk, threaten or intimidate anyone;
- post hate speech, or discriminate against anyone because of their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age;
- post nudity, sexually explicit material, or violent or graphic content;
- offer or request sex, escort services or any sexual activity in exchange for money or anything of value;
- involve, depict or sexualise anyone under 18 in any way;
- pretend to be someone else, create fake profiles, or use photos of anyone other than yourself without their consent;
- scam or defraud anyone, or ask other users for money;
- organise or join activities that involve betting or gambling for money;
- share someone else's private information, including intimate images, without their consent;
- sell or promote illegal drugs, weapons, or any other illegal goods or services;
- use JoinMe for advertising, spam or commercial solicitation without our written permission;
- infringe anyone's copyright, trademark or other rights;
- use bots or automated means to access the Service, or copy ("scrape") data from it;
- interfere with the Service, get around its security, or upload malicious code;
- knowingly make false reports about other users;
- do anything else that is illegal.
7. Your content
You keep all your rights in the photos, videos, text and other content you post on JoinMe ("your content").
So that we can run the Service, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence, for as long as your content is on JoinMe, to store, host, copy, adapt (for example by resizing or cropping images) and display your content, and to let our service providers do so on our behalf. We use this licence only to provide the Service. We will not use your photos or content in advertising or marketing without asking you first.
The licence ends when you delete the content or your account. Deleted content may remain in backups for a limited period, and reported content may be kept as evidence, as described in our Privacy Policy (section 9).
You are responsible for your content. You confirm that you have all the rights needed to post it, and that anyone else who can be recognised in it has agreed to it being posted.
8. Reporting, blocking and moderation
8.1 Reporting and blocking
You can report a user, profile, activity or message directly in the app, and you can block any user at any time. Once you block someone, neither of you can see or contact the other on JoinMe.
8.2 Reporting illegal content
Anyone, including people without an account, can tell us about content they believe is illegal by using the report function or by emailing hello@joinmesocial.com (if someone is in immediate danger, call 112 (EU) or 110 (police in Germany) first; for a danger to someone or a possible child, safety@joinmesocial.com). To help us act quickly, please include:
- why you believe the content is illegal;
- where to find it, such as the name shown on the profile, the activity title, or a screenshot. If a child may be shown, never send or screenshot the image: describe where it is instead (see our child safety standards);
- your name and email address (not needed if you report possible child sexual abuse material);
- a statement that you believe, in good faith, that the information in your report is accurate and complete.
We confirm receipt of reports, review them carefully and without undue delay, and tell you what we decided.
8.3 How we moderate
We review reported content and accounts manually. If we find that content or behaviour is illegal or breaks these Terms, we may, depending on how serious it is: remove the content or restrict who can see it; warn the user; temporarily suspend features or the account; or close the account permanently. In deciding, we consider the severity and frequency of the breach and the rights and interests of everyone involved, including freedom of expression. Where appropriate, we will warn you before taking action.
If we receive a report of serious misconduct, such as violence, threats, sexual assault or stalking, we may temporarily restrict the reported account while we look into it, so that nobody is put at risk in the meantime. This is a precaution and not a finding that you did anything wrong. We will tell you, give you our reasons and let you give your side, and we end the restriction if, after looking into it, we decide not to take further action. A single report of less serious behaviour that we cannot confirm does not lead to a restriction.
We use one automated tool. When you save an activity (title, description or location), a profile text or your name, our servers automatically check it against a short list of clearly prohibited words and phrases: slurs, and offers or requests for sex or sexual services. They also check that a name could not be mistaken for JoinMe staff (for example "JoinMe Support" or "Admin"). If the text matches, we refuse to save it and tell you which field to change. This tool does not suspend or close accounts, and it does not read your chats or join notes. It is a first check and cannot catch everything: content the tool doesn't catch is reviewed by a person when someone reports it, and a person makes every decision about your account. If you think the tool refused your text by mistake, email hello@joinmesocial.com and a person will review it. If this changes, we will update these Terms.
Separately, the app on your phone checks a message when you tap Send, and the messages you receive, against a short list of slurs, threats and sexual demands. If it finds a match, it asks you "Are you sure?" before you send, or "Does this bother you?" when you receive. This check runs only on your device: we do not receive its result or whether a message was flagged, and it does not block your message or decide anything about your account. The message itself is handled like any other chat message. It is a prompt to think twice and to report easily, not a promise that harmful messages will be caught. You can still send your message after the prompt, and you stay responsible for what you send under these Terms.
If we restrict your content or account, we will tell you and give you our reasons, unless the law or the police require us to wait. Our message never says who reported you. If you disagree with a decision, you can ask us to review it by replying to our message or emailing safety@joinmesocial.com (or hello@joinmesocial.com). A person will review your request. You can also take the matter to court.
8.4 Points of contact
Our single point of contact for users and for authorities under the EU Digital Services Act is hello@joinmesocial.com. You can contact us in English or German.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account in the app under Settings → Delete Account. This ends our agreement. If your account is suspended, it can't be deleted in the app: email privacy@joinmesocial.com and we reply within one month. We may keep what an open case needs.
We may end our agreement and close your account with at least 30 days' notice, for example if we stop offering the Service. We may also suspend or close your account immediately, for good cause, if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms or the law, or if it is necessary to protect other users. Section 8.3 explains how we tell you about such decisions and how you can challenge them.
10. Fees
JoinMe is currently free to use. If we introduce paid features in the future, we will tell you the price and the terms that apply before you buy anything, and you will never be charged without agreeing to it first. Purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play are also subject to their terms.
11. Our intellectual property
The Service, including the JoinMe name, logo, design and software, belongs to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the JoinMe apps for your own, non-commercial use, in accordance with these Terms. You may not copy, modify, decompile or reverse-engineer the apps, except to the extent that the law expressly allows this.
12. Liability
12.1 We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence; for injury to life, body or health; under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz); and where we have given a guarantee, and where the law does not allow liability to be excluded or limited (for example liability under data protection law).
12.2 If we cause damage through slight negligence, we are only liable if we breach an essential contractual obligation. An essential obligation is one whose fulfilment makes it possible to carry out this agreement properly in the first place, and on which you may regularly rely. In that case, our liability is limited to the damage that is typical for this kind of agreement and that was foreseeable when it was entered into.
12.3 For slight negligence in other cases we are not liable.
12.4 These limitations also apply for the benefit of our representatives, employees and agents.
12.5 Other users are not acting on our behalf. We are not liable merely because another user acts unlawfully or breaches these Terms, on or off the Service. We are liable for our own conduct as set out in clauses 12.1 and 12.2.
13. Claims caused by you
If you are at fault for breaking these Terms or the law, or for infringing someone else's rights, and a third party makes a claim against us as a result, you agree to indemnify us against that claim, including the reasonable cost of our legal defence. We will tell you about any such claim promptly and give you the chance to respond to it.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may change these Terms for a valid reason, such as a change in the law or in court decisions, or new or changed features of the Service. We will tell you about any change, in the app or by email, at least six weeks before it takes effect.
If a change is to your disadvantage, or significantly affects what either of us has agreed to do, we will ask for your consent. We will not treat your silence or continued use as agreement. If you don't consent, the current Terms continue to apply, and both you and we may end the agreement. Changes that are purely to your benefit, or that are required by law, take effect as announced.
15. App store terms
If you downloaded JoinMe from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:
- These Terms are between you and us only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the JoinMe app and its content.
- Your licence to use the app is limited to use on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- We, not Apple, are solely responsible for providing maintenance and support for the app. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to any legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
- If a third party claims that the app, or your possession and use of it, infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country that is subject to a US Government embargo or that has been designated by the US Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the app, such as your mobile data service agreement.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept them, Apple will have the right to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
If you downloaded JoinMe from Google Play, Google's terms for Google Play also apply to your use of the store.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you habitually live.
If you are a merchant, the courts at our place of business have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, the statutory rules on jurisdiction apply.
We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
17. General
- If any provision of these Terms is invalid, the rest of the Terms remain in force.
- If we don't enforce a provision straight away, that doesn't mean we have waived our rights under it.
- We may transfer this agreement to a company that takes over the Service. We will tell you in advance, and you may end the agreement if you don't agree to the transfer.
